Network separation divides a network into isolated segments so that a problem in one does not reach the others. In practice it means the laptop your finance manager uses cannot be reached by the smart TV, the games console, or a housemate’s laptop on the same broadband line.

Without it, every device sharing a network is a potential route to every other device on it.
